Demo version 0.2.5.0 is ready!


Midlight version 0.2.5.0 is now live!

After a lot of work and rework the next update is now ready! I kind of went for a change in plans mid way through development of this update. I originally envisioned that this next update would mainly include the "Chapter 2" sections, I found that the first part of the game still need a lot of balancing and fixing, so I went back and redid a lot things to make them flow better. I did get to work on some of "Chapter 2", but as of right now it is not included in this current update. 

I also decided to enable debug mode for the release version. The reason for this is that every update will have to erase old save files in order for them to work. So in order to allow people to get to later levels or areas where they once were, I enabled debug mode. With this you can skip levels or see other features, behind the scenes.

-- Debug mode & Skip guide --

In order to skip a level. First when inside a level, enable debug mode by pressing "9" on your keyboard.  Next press the "7" key to turn off the light. Then just proceed to the door and you will be done with the level.

You can also enable a sort of night vision mode. While in debug mode, press the "6" key and then you will enable fake light mode while lights are off. There are other features in debug mode like hitboxes and room reset. Warning!!! Debug mode could mess with code during cutscenes and other areas, so it is advised to use Debug mode with caution.

For this update, I focused on improving dialogue and removing some old bugs. Here are some of the changes.

  • Mountain of bugs fixed. There is way too many to list here, but some of the bigger fixes include lighting fixes and camera fixes. 
  • Added and edited more dialogue for characters.
  • A new boss has been added. This new boss actually appears before the boss in the previous update. I did this mainly to better introduce characters and mix up the game play.
  • The boss on Holmes street has been given an upgrade.
  • The retry screen has been redone.
  • Ledge grabbing on banisters has been added.
  • Each of the three houses has more dialogue and scenes.
  • The first house on Hewitt street is complete (Not currently playable in the demo). This will be included in the next update.

These plans may change, but the current plan is as follows.

Ver 0.3.0.0 - this version will include Hewitt street and the levels and cutscenes involved with it.

Ver 0.3.5.0 - this version will mainly focus on a boss and the level leading up to the boss. 

Trailer revision - the current trailer needs to be redone in order to upgrade to a better quality.
